The history of Lolita fashion

Lolita fashion originated in Japan. It wouldn't be rare, in Harajuku, to see two young girls dressed in a sophisticated manner, with beautiful frilly dresses. This fashion appeared in the 80s and takes up the Victorian aesthetic, adapted to the Kawaii taste that the Japanese appreciate so much.

Although each Lolita outfit has common inspirations (Victorian style, platform shoes, knee-length dresses), each style has additional inspirations that make the outfits vary for every lady.

The Guro Lolita is in a style derived from the Lolita, which is more interested in horror than cuteness. The most used elements are: blood stains, eye markets, fake bruises and sometimes damaged outfits. The outfits are often black or white, so that the bloodstains can stand out better. This gives a « broken doll » look, where innocence meets horror.
